Home > Weaving School

In our weaving school, you have the rare opportunity to learn the ancient art of backstrap loom weaving from our expert women weavers.

You can choose what to make from a range of options, from a simple sample piece to a complex embroidered table runner. You select the colors and pattern that you use in your design. When you finish, you get to take home whatever you make – a unique souvenir of your time in Guatemala.

During your time at weaving school, you will learn how to select the best materials, prepare the thread and weave using a traditional backstrap loom. You will also have the opportunity to find out more about different weaving processes, the history of Mayan weaving, and the rich culture of textiles in Guatemala. Each class is taught one-to-one to make sure you get all the support you need to create a beautiful piece.

Classes run from Monday to Friday, from 9am–5pm. You can start your classes on any day of the week, at any time of day. Just drop by the TRAMA office and we’ll sign you up in person, or send us an email at admin@tramatextiles.org.
