Vegetable Tanned Leather Clutch - Deep Forest
The heart of the forest was believed to shelter powerful spirits behind its emerald curtains.
Mysterious creatures and ancient deities took the form of animals to roam the woods and provide hunters and collectors with all they needed to sustain their people.
The gentle deer was king in this sacred shrine and was worshipped for being close to Tohil, the god of fire, sun and storm. The strength of the god was linked to the noble bearing of the animal, arousing the admiration of Mayan warriors and priests.
Our weavers created these precious crafts to honor the majestic beauty of the Guatemalan forests. By using only upcycled parts of traditional huipiles and vegetable-tanned leather, they manufactured lovely accessories that respect nature and its inhabitants.
If you take a closer look, you might glimpse the gracious silhouettes of pansies, gladioli, quetzal birds, and deers!
