Natural Dye Blanket
This naturally-dyed, traditionally hand-woven blanket, was created in Trama's weaving community in San Juan de la Laguna, one of the few places in Guatemala where natural-dyeing processes are still commonly practiced.
These blankets feature a striped pattern, which comes from using the Jaspè-dyeing technique. The weavers begin by tying and dyeing individual threads to create this particular pattern. The threads are then realigned on the loom before weaving can begin. As the women begin to weave, the Jaspe design appears.
