Vegetable Tanned Leather Bag - Kukulkan
The refined craftsmanship of TRAMA's weavers meets the Guatemalan vegetable tanning tradition to immerse you in the delicious fragrances and nuances of nature.
The secret lies in natural tannins (yes, like those you drink when savoring a cup of your favorite red wine).
These organic substances are tools in the hands of skilled artisans. Their creations are unique: each of these precious pieces displays rich, deep and earthy colors, together with a distinct, sweet aroma. These are features of high quality, coming from the tree barks, leaves and roots that compose the Guatemalan flora and tropical landscape.
Thanks to organic tannins, all our bags are also 100% biodegradable!
So, when the time comes, these beauties will naturally and quietly return to the earth. However, it will take fairly long before this happens: by altering the protein structure of each hide, tannins give leather distinctive strength and robustness.
All these marvellous qualities are further enhanced by our weavers' creativity!
Each bag's personality is indeed portrayed in charming recycled pieces of exquisite huipiles.
Their refined designs echo the shape of Kukulkan, the Mayan serpent deity whose head is adorned with the iridescent feathers of the Quetzal bird. His cult was particularly important since it was one of the first to be widely spread, facilitating communication and trade among people of many different social and ethnic backgrounds...
So fascinating, isn't it?
