San Juan, Lake Atitlan

san juan lake atitlan homestay mayan weavers

San Juan is a village on the shores of Lake Atitlan. The  lake is famous for its natural beauty, and for all the surrounding Mayan villages, which are beautiful in themselves. Lake Atitlan is the deepest lake in Central America and offers many poular hikes and other activities, activities, drawing lots of tourism to the area.

This homestay gives you the opportunity to share the family lives of Maria Christina and Francisca, two sisters who live next to each other, and the three generations of family members that live in their houses. The houses are surrounded by the forest and located very close to the lake’s beach.

The women run a shop full of their products, and teach weaving techniques and natural dye demonstrations while their husbands work in the local coffee fields.

During your stay at San Juan, your host can show you around the area. One of the activities available on the shores of Lake Atitlan is a tour around Santa Catarina Palopo. We also offer the opportunity to go to San Antonio Palopo. Click here to read more about the day tours.
