Chirijox Huipil Blouse - Dark Green
The huipil is the torso portion of the traje (traditional indigenous womens' dress) and is worn by the Mayan people of Guatemala as an expression of ethnic identity.
This huipil top is handmade with cotton in the Chirijox region of Guatemala.
It was made in the traditional method of backstrap loom-weaving. The process is labour intensive, taking approximately 2 months to manufacture. The collar is hand embroidered.
The design features dancing lions; this embroidered lions represent Mayans deep connection with nature and the beautiful wildlife that lives in the mountains surrounding their villages.
