Vibrant Culebriado Table Runner
This lovely tablecloth features a vibrant design in Maya reds and greens. The color red can symbolizes the sunset, volcanoes and the famous red corn of Guatemala. Handmade in the highlands of Guatemala by our Mayan weavers.
Each piece is handcrafted on a traditional footloom by one of the 400 women of our weaving cooperative. Footloom weaving is a different weaving technique than backstrap loom weaving.
This design comes from the Sacatepéquez region. The central pattern represents the peaks of the Guatemalan volcanoes with plumes of smoke rising skyward. Bordering the volcanoes is a row of spring flowers and wreaths to respectfully mourn the dead. Finally, on the outer edges are curving lines representing the winding rivers of Guatemala – Quite the conversation starter!
