Small Upcycled Beauty Bag - Cosmos Huipil
The ancient Mesoamerican cosmos was made of fibre and filaments.
Threads were believed to connect all worlds and the gods could walk on these invisible, thin bridges to explore them.
However, only one deity had the power to change the fabric of the universe, affecting even the rotation of the sun and the related cycles of life.
This deity was Ix Chel, the goddess guardian of weaving and birth.
Her goodness made her a guide for the ancient Mayans, teaching the women of all communities how to look for the secret patterns of reality and weave them into breath-taking and unique crafts.
Today, our weavers are the keepers of this ancient knowledge and honor the teachings of Ix Chel with each of these precious handbags, made with recycled parts of the famous Guatemalan huipil.
The diamond-shaped design they showcase is indeed the symbol of the universe, with its four corners being the cardinal directions.
Take a closer look and you might see the sun making its revolution around the Earth!
