Upcycled Wrap Skirt - Sololá Corte

Have you ever heard the term "Corte"?

If you are used to navigating our website, you probably have and already know about the immense cultural richness that this word entails.

But if that's not your case, we got you covered: the Corte is the long skirt that composes, together with the Huipil, the traditional Mayan dress (the "traje"). Each piece of the traje is invaluable for it requires unparalleled skill in the ancient Mayan weaving techniques as well as unique creative sparks to bring the fabric come to life.
Indeed, the refined embroideries that enrich the dazzling beauty of all trajes are composed of patterns that belong to their weaver's background, thus telling the story of each of our wondrous craftswomen.

These precious skirts showcase the style of the Cortes from the Sololá region, where our community of weavers is known to be particularly fond of animals. By taking a closer look at their exquisite and bright embroideries, you will recognise animal shapes that symbolise the love and respect for all the marvellous creatures that inhabit our homes and natural surroundings.
