Join Trama Textiles for a special one-day journey to Buena Vista, San Rafael Petzal, Huehuetenango, and meet one of the artisan groups that forms part of our network of women weavers. This experience is an opportunity to go beyond the textiles and discover the women, traditions, stories, and communities behind Trama Textiles.

We will meet at Trama Textiles at 6:00 AM and begin our journey together to Huehuetenango. As part of the experience, we will travel by chicken bus, one of Guatemala’s most traditional forms of local transportation. Once we arrive in the area, we will continue on foot with a walk to reach the community of Buena Vista.

There, we will be welcomed by one of Trama Textiles’ groups of women weavers, who will invite us to learn more about their community, their experiences, and their work.

During the visit, the weavers will share their stories and talk about their experience with traditional backstrap weaving, an ancestral technique that

has been passed down through generations. We will also have the opportunity to see them working on their looms and observe firsthand the skill, patience, and dedication behind the creation of a handwoven textile.

More than simply observing the weaving process, this experience is about connection and cultural exchange. You will have the opportunity to spend time with the weavers, listen to their stories, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the role that weaving plays in their lives, families, and community.

As part of our time together, the women will also share a traditional meal with us, creating another special moment to connect, exchange experiences, and enjoy their hospitality.

This one-day visit offers a different way to experience Guatemala: traveling through the local landscape, visiting a rural community, meeting the women behind the textiles, and discovering the traditions that continue to shape their work today.

Come ready to travel, walk, learn, share, and connect with one of the weaving communities that makes Trama Textiles possible.
