One Year at Trama Textiles: A journey of learning

One Year at Trama Textiles: A journey of learning

This last July marked one year since I joined Trama Textiles, and it has been a year filled with learning, connection, and meaningful work. From my very first day, I was welcomed into a community of strong, talented women whose art of backstrap weaving carries centuries of tradition.

Over the past year, I’ve had the joy of meeting so many people—customers, volunteers, and supporters—whose faces light up when they learn the story behind each handwoven piece. I’ve seen how a simple conversation about weaving can open doors to understanding culture, resilience, and the incredible skill of our artisans.

My role in marketing has been a journey in itself. I’ve learned not only the technical side of promoting our work but also how to tell the stories that matter most—the ones that bring our weavers’ artistry and determination to life. We’ve been working hard to build a better, more accessible website so we can reach more people around the world who believe in fair trade and slow fashion.

I have also been fortunate to work with a dedicated group of online volunteers—our “collaborators”—who have shared valuable ideas, fresh perspectives, and unwavering support. Together, we’ve expanded our reach and connected with more wholesale customers who are eager to share our textiles in their own communities.

This experience has inspired me to take my skills further. I decided to learn formally about marketing so I can better serve the mission of Trama Textiles. Every lesson I learn, every campaign I create, is driven by a single purpose: to help our weavers continue to provide for their families, keep their children in school, and preserve their heritage for future generations.

One year in, I can say this with certainty: my time at Trama has been about more than marketing—it’s about being part of something bigger than myself, where every action supports creativity, culture, and community. And I’m just getting started.
