This huipil top is handmade with cotton in the Alta Verapaz region of Guatemala. The detailed, intricate hand-embroidery of this huipil stands out against the deep, beautiful vibrant, blue tone of this piece.
The rich embroidery of this piece is imbued with deer imagery, which is typical of hupil designs from Cobán, a city in Guatemala’s highlands, and a cardamom and coffee-growing region.
In addition this huipil has two small zippers in front, which is traditionally used for women to breastfeed, serving as a practical detail which represents the mothers that are a part of Trama's collective.
