This huipil top was handwoven with cotton from the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala through the traditional method of backstrap loom-weaving.
The beautiful contrast between the deep maroon and light vertical stripes of this huipil is a typical design from Huehuetenango.
The vibrant, hand-embroidered magical mariposas provide a reflection of continuity and freedom of the weaver, with her powerful ability to weave stories into her textiles.
